Overview
Our collaboration with Our Songlines began as a redesign and implementation of their interactive map. However, it naturally evolved into a full upgrade of their website and blog, aimed at delivering a modern, refreshed look while preserving the heart and essence of the project.
Components
Elements built to showcase culture
The components of the Our Songlines project were crafted with consistency, accessibility and cultural respect in mind. From buttons to navigation elements, every detail was built to make it easy for users to explore the history of Indigenous Australians.
Tech stack
The client already had a WordPress blog — where she managed the news — and an MVP for the map that was built with Ruby on Rails. We decided to maintain the data sources that were in use so we adapted the WordPress builtin API (and extended it with more data) and converted all Ruby on Rails logic into an API as well. Lastly, we connected both to the frontend powered by Nuxt.js.
Every tool and framework was chosen to create a smooth user experience while supporting the project’s mission.

Booking Service
Our mission with the booking service was creating a dedicated space for users to truly engage with mindful activities that encourage cultural learning. For this, we focused on safety, creativity and accessibility.

What was once a single-page Blog gained life by having a new main page, a space for each post, recommended sections (like Most Popular), post categories and a search functionality that allows for a better user experience. The new Blog offers a smoother and more engaging experience for any reader.

The shop was designed to showcase the richness of Indigenous products while providing an intuitive purchasing flow. Every detail was thought to make it easy for users to browse and support the products.
To ensure users could explore Our Songlines from everywhere and anywhere, our team designed and implemented all pages to be fully responsive.
